Together for Better Local Governance

A training session on the application of good governance principles was held in Mali Zvornik, as a result of mentoring support and a cycle of trainings on this topic, completed by 22 local government representatives, within the “PRO – Local Governance for People and Nature” programme.

The second in a series of trainings was designed by one of the local government representatives who completed a training cycle on applying good governance principles in practice, as well as a training of trainers program.

The training enabled both the practical application of newly acquired knowledge and horizontal exchange of information, with the aim of strengthening the capacities of peers working in the area of good governance.

Particular focus was on the implementation of good governance principles in the daily work of institutions, as well as on the use of eGovernment tools and the presentation of the eRegistry as a means of improving official communication and enabling efficient document exchange among public institutions, companies, and local governments.

The training brought together 28 participants from local self-governments who, through discussion and practical examples, gained essential knowledge for applying good governance principles, as well as for introducing eGovernment and using the eRegistry system.

By building staff capacities and improving knowledge in the areas of good governance and digitalisation, local governments are becoming better equipped to respond to citizens’ needs through more efficient, transparent, and accessible public services.

The programme supports local governments whose representatives have completed the training through the establishment of local Good Governance Competence Units. In the upcoming training cycles, trainers will play a key role in transferring knowledge and strengthening capacities at the local level across various areas of work.

The Programme "PRO - Local Government for People and Nature" is jointly implemented by the United Nations agencies in Serbia - UNOPS, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNEP, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and with the financial support of the Government of Switzerland.
